v7.10 hangs on boot

I have checked the MD5 hash and the downloads are in tact. The iso boots but no matter what option it hangs with this statement: "running local scripts rc.d" This happens on a Dell M170 laptop, Dell Dimension L866r desktop, and vmware machines as well. I feel there must be something simple that I'm missing. I've also tried v7.04 with same results.

What happens if you press

What happens if you press enter?

The startup scripts are optimized for a GUI. That means that you are dropped into the login shell before the scripts finish. The login prompt is not the last thing displayed on your screen in VC1 because of the messages from the init scripts that follow.

If you press enter, you should see the login prompt again.

I haven't played around with the init scripts because I don't want to deviate from a stock Ubuntu install. Maybe I should, or maybe the user should be shown a message or something?

I am baffled and unable to

I am baffled and unable to explain this but the image works just fine today. Pressing {enter} brought the prompt back, just as you suggested. Last night I am certain it did not. Last night I also tried pressing CTRL+ALT+F1 thru F12 with no luck. Today F1 and F2 work as they should, offering TTY sessions. I could not be more confused about it not working before.

I like that you did NOT deviate from stock UBUNTU. I appreciate your help.

I'm having nearly the same

I'm having nearly the same problem with UbuntuStudio 7.10. I get the same error and specifically I get this "No valid FontPath could be found" error, that I'm unable to fix. I'm pretty sure it's an XORG error. Most of the the reasons why Ubuntu won't boot is because of that subsystem. I can't install anything manually because the console just keeps sayign that the packages I want to install can't be found. I'm stuck.

The Rescue-Remix doesn't

The Rescue-Remix doesn't even include xorg...
