vga=xyz boot option broken

This appears to be a problem in v7.10 of Ubuntu; not a problem with this remix. I get blackscreens no matter what parameter is used with vga (just as others report is happening in v7.10 of Ubuntu). The inability to specify vga at boot is very inconvenient, though. At present, I must choose between new(?) tools in the remix at 640x480 and old(?) tools in 7.04 remix with higher resolutions.
Is there a way other than passing "live vga=xyz" at the boot prompt to set the vga for the remix?
Is that the proper syntax/usage to change other boot options? ("live {argument{=parameter}}" ??)

I poked around a few bugs.
I poked around a few bugs. This seems to be the relevant one:

It seems to me that I can boot various vga options successfully, but I will confirm that...

And yes, that is the syntax.
